Who Is Gen X's Biggest Crush?

As voted on by you, the Arrow readers

Gen x crush bracket

Every once in a while, it’s important to tackle the big questions of life. Do we have free will? What happens after you die? Are we alone in the universe? Was Winona Ryder or Phoebe Cates Gen X’s biggest crush?

We can’t answer all of those questions, but we can tackle the last one. We've decided to boldly go where no newsletter has gone before and compile the definitive list of Gen X crushes.

It was no easy task, so we put the question to you, our readers. We asked you on social media to nominate your favorite female celebrities from your youth. You came through with a lot of ideas. Seriously, you guys have obviously given this some thought. And sadly, we couldn't possibly include every name you suggested.

We narrowed it down to 16. It's likely that at least a few of your crushes didn't make the cut. We apologize for that. (Especially to the guy who made some stirring arguments for Daphne from "Scooby-Doo," who has a lot of unresolved feelings about an animated character who doesn't technically exist.) This list is heteronormative, so our queer readers may feel left out. (If you want a similar showdown for crushable dudes, write us and let us know.)

Also, we decided to focus exclusively on the '80s and '90s. We realize this leaves out a pretty major decade, and fans of Farrah Fawcett/Lynda Carter/Raquel Welch, et al will not be happy. All we can say is, life is not always fair.

We'll be hosting a new showdown every morning, as we narrow down the field and look for our ultimate winner. Vote today in the latest contest, Salma Hayek vs. Christina Applegate. And be sure to follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to debate the winners (and losers) with your fellow Xers.

Check back here regularly to see how the bracket is filling out and if your favorites are still in the running.

We'll have a full rundown of the winners, including an official crowning of Gen X's Biggest Crush, in an upcoming issue of The Arrow. We also have a few surprises in the works for the unveiling. Subscribe today so you don't miss a moment of it. It's completely free, and we won't inundate your inbox with emails.

Remember, if you don't vote, you can't complain if your favorite(s) don't win.
